Since you can't believe that she had parents, remember? I know you didn't mean it that way, but saying that someone might have been abandoned, or other such theories, tend to suggest that someone was discarded because they were/are worthless. Needless to say, she was hurt... not to mention it reminded her of those that aren't with her anymore.
